Memories In The Making

May 8 - Saanichton, Vancouver Island

My “ book tour” is about sharing memories and encouraging people to record their own memories to help people move forward through loss.

As I walk I am sharing memories of my past but at the same time I am creating new memories with the people that I walk with.  At first I thought I would be doing unique and interesting walks across the country but it is more about creating new memories on walks not the walk itself.  Where I walk is not important, every walk and every journey has its 'specialness', it does not have to be written up in Explorer Magazine.

A few months ago my Aunt and I took a walk in the trails meandering through Abbotsford City and got lost.  We had to phone my Aunt and Uncle who left church to come rescue us.  The walk through the trees in the middle of Abbotsford was pretty but it would not be on any ‘must do’ lists but we created memories to last a lifetime.  It was the lasting memories that we created not where we walked.

The only way to create a memory with someone is to actually take time to create memories.  I understand that everyone is busy so I will make my walks convenient and mostly in the evenings when people are finished work.  I look forward to spending time and creating memories with everyone that have time to spend with me as I cross the country.

Today was a fabulous day walking around Elk Lake and Beaver Lake with my daughter.  Dominique just got back from New York where she took advanced training with Landmark Forum.  The training she is getting has the side benefit of enriching her relationships to which I am so appreciating!  I am looking forward to going to the Landmark Forum this coming October with her.

Dominique told me of her trip and the moving experience she had at the World Trade Center Memorial.  The monument tells the stories of the people and the events of the day reinforcing my my passion of recording memories to work through loss.  I feel the need now to one day see this monument.  What a lovely walk, I am so proud of my daughter.

Next I was going to go for a walk with my nephew at Island View park but ended up just walking around his farm with him.  We had a fun day recalling stories about when he and his brothers would come visit Robins and walk around the property.  It ended up being exactly what was supposed to happen.  Helping Cody water the horses and visit the animals on the farm watching him in his element warmed by heart.

I leave tomorrow morning and will be walking the Great Trail (Trans Canada Trail) for around 25 km to go to my brothers.  Will let you know how it went tomorrow night.

My new motto is:

Embrace the Moment, Create Memory, Record Memory, Repeat
