Mother’s Day

May 12th
Youbou, Lake Cowichan

My journey’s timing was perfect as I got to be at my mom’s on Mother’s Day weekend.  When we woke up Sunday morning we sat in her back garden enjoying the flowering Wisteria and Rhododendrons looking at the view of Lake Cowichan in the distance.  Then we went for Mother’s Day Breakfast at the quaint little mom and pop coffee shop four doors down.  Youbou is a small mill town that no longer has a mill but the people are very down to earth and friendly.  They are sincerely interested in what you are doing.

My mom was tired from yesterday’s adventure to the Kinsel Trestle so I went for a walk on my own through town and down to the lake.  I sat on the wharf and remembered all the fun times we have had in this lake when the kids were younger.  Realizing they are memories to be savoured but never repeated had me feeling grateful but a little sad as time goes so quickly.

When I returned home we did what my mom and I could do all day long, we played cards.  Keeping score only so we can play another game right away.  My mom made taco salad for dinner which made me realize that eating a meal cooked by my mother has this nostalgic quality that no other food can satisfy.  It was a lovely Mother’s Day and I am so thankful I was able to spend it with my mother❤️
