Fresh Bread to Welcome Our Guests
We want you, our guest, to feel at home and relaxed as soon as you arrive to Argo’s Landing. To achieve this quest we welcome you here with a loaf of fresh home made bread.
You may think I have gone to a lot of trouble and have been slaving for hours in the kitchen. I shouldn’t be telling you this but it is the easiest bread I have ever made and I am giving you the recipe.
You may think I have gone to a lot of trouble and have been slaving for hours in the kitchen. I shouldn’t be telling you this but it is the easiest bread I have ever made and I am giving you the recipe.
Mix together:
6 cups flour
1/2 tsp. yeast
2 1/2 tsp. salt
Add in 2 2/3 cups cold water
Mix
Cover with plastic wrap and let sit for 12-18 hours.
I put mine in the oven with the light on
as the air is cooler and damper here on the West Coast.
After 18ish hours it will look like this.
It is still quite gooey. I handle it lightly like a sourdough.
You don’t want to lose all the work the yeast has done.
I form it into a round loaf and then cut it in two.
I put them on floured parchment paper and cover them with a tea towel.
I let them raise for an hour
in the oven with the light on for 1 1/2 hours.
When the loaves have been rising for 1 hour
I warm up the oven to 425 degrees F with my Dutch oven inside.
When the oven gets to temperature I cut the parchment paper in half.
Pick up the loaf in the parchment and place in the Dutch oven
and put the lid on.
Bake for 30-40 minutes. The core temperature should get to 210 degrees F.
Take the lid off and bake for a further 10 minutes.
Remove from oven.
and enjoy!!
Did you notice something really nice?
The beautiful cutting board?
I went to Brady’s Gallery and took a quick look,
this caught my eye.
A beautiful cutting board, perfect for an extra special presentation.
This bread has thick crusts so the best way to slice it is by cutting the loaf in half,
put the cut side down and slice smaller pieces from the side.
Timing is everything !
When you come to stay, phone us before you head down the logging road. I will put the bread in the oven when you call so the smell of fresh bread will greet you when you walk through the door. Settle in, have a slice of fresh bread with butter and start relaxing!
