Letting Go Of Expectations
May 4
I had a clear picture of our
day. We were going to Fort Rodd Hill to explore this Canadian Historic
site then have a picturesque picnic at the lighthouse. The sign that
gives the distances to new adventures would be my perfect Instagram picture.

But as with life, especially with
children, it didn’t turn out that way. My 7 year old grandson had no
desire to get into a car and wanted to walk around the neighbourhood. Feeling a little frustrated I agreed. My plan sounded way better than this I thought.
It was a slow walk as we watched
lizards, made wishes as we blew dandelion seeds, and looked for the perfect
place to have a picnic.
Xavier pointed out the best field but
I said, “the field surrounded by barbed wire in the correctional facility
probably is not the best place.”
We followed the signs to a fabulous
baseball park with a terrific adventure playground and had a picnic under the
Gary Oak Tree.
We didn’t get into a car and had a
really fun time exploring our own neighbourhood. All these places we had never been before I was taught another lesson from my grandson how to live in the moment.
I am reminded again not to create a
false future and to live in the moments and let this adventure unfold on its
own.
